Beach Dreams

[Mate Ugrin]

I have a few weeks before I officially move into my new spot.. and this is something that I need to find time to do.. even if it's by myself (which actually would be pretty pleasant).

I'm currently reading through Zeitoun by Dave Eggers.. a true story about a man enduring through Hurricane Katrina and the crisis thereafter.  I love it, and it's really getting me a sense of how New Orleans really was during that time.. which I know I will still help with the rebuilding.. especially that of their healthcare system.

..there's something really peaceful about reading this book on the beach, toes in the sand, and a mimosa in hand.  and of course Coops would come along as well.  I'm digging it.

Next on the Book Queue

The book I'm currently reading and am almost done with.. is somewhat abysmal.  Maybe that's harsh, but it's kinda all over the place (and not in an intentionally thoughtful way) and some of the dialogue is a little contrived.  Fine.  Now I usually quit reading books that I'm not feeling (why waste my time, right?) but there's this random part in the middle of the book that seems like it is apart of an entirely different book (I won't ruin it for you, but then again, I also don't recommend it).. and I want to figure out where he's going with it all.

However.  I am excited for the next book I'm going to read -- Cutting for Stone.  Moms gave it to me for Christmas, and it comes highly recommended.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Currently Reading.. and such.

I feel like I've been living out of a suitcase lately -- my apartment is a mess, I have no groceries b/c by the time I buy them, they rot in my absence, and I'm constantly tired. This is my last weekend away (at least for a week or two), and it is by far the best one yet -- I'm going to NYC to see S$!! Words cannot explain how excited I am to visit her!

During my travels, especially in the airport, I usually always stop by the second hand bookstores -- I feel the books have a little more character there, and the owners are always around to give you advice on your next read. There's one in the airport, and I'm a huge fan of supporting local businesses.. and their latest recommendation is:

So far I love it -- and I know it's been out for a while, but it's time to start reading all the contemporary fiction I can, before medical school takes over my life (my interview at Case went well, btw).
